blog #12

#1 in a poccket of gas the sound would travel quick. if it were to travel through oil it would go a lot slower because oil is a liquid which is denser.

#2 there would be no sound because there is no air(medium) for the sound to travel through

Blog Entry #11

1) a disturbance that travels through a medium from one location to another location

2) waves transfer energy

3) by traveling energy through a medium such as air or water

No the wave only travels energy through the matter but does not move the particles.

blog entry #9 Newtons laws

1:the bowling ball keeps its motion because the pin is stationary and has less mass.

2:the pin has less mass so it doesnt have a big effect on the bowling ball

3:the pin is at rst and the bowling ball is the unbalenced force

4:the pin has little mass and the bowling ball has greater mass

5:the boling ball moves the pin and the pin slows down the bowling ball

Balenced and Unbalenced Forces

1. We have all heard of the game tug of war.  Explain how this game could have a clear winner. when one side has more force than the other.

2. Why do you think that forces happen in pairs? Because to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

3. I am trying to push a large box across the gym. Although I am exerting a force, the box does not move. Why could that be? The box is to heavy and you arent strong enough to push it.

4. One ball rolls along a shelf at a steady rate. A second ball rolls off the shelf and gains speed as it falls in a curved path. Which must have an unbalanced force acting on it and why?

                                 What is Science?

Science is a way of asking questions. Science helps understand how the world around us works. Science is asking questions. Science is life. Science is the way the world works. Without science would anything we have today excist?

                    Variables and Experimental Design

1. Testable Question: Is one brand of paper towels stronger than the other when wet?
Experiment: Measure the strength of two brands of wet paper towels by measuring the number of  marbles each wet towel will hold without tearing.
Independent Variable (IV) Brand of paper towel
Constants (C) Wet
Dependent Variable (DV) Number of marbles

2.Testable Question: Which brand of chocolate bar melts the fastest?
Experiment: Measure the rate at which two (or more) brands of chocolate bars melt.
Independent Variable (IV) Brand of chocolate
Constants (C)
Dependent Variable (DV)  Which brand melts faster

3. Testable Question: Does listening to different types of music affect your hear rate?
Experiment: Measure the pulse rate of individuals following exposure to various types of music.
Independent Variable (IV) Type of music
Constants (C)
Dependent Variable (DV) Heart rate

4. Finally Make up a Testable Question, experiment of how to test and identify the variables for that experiment

Testible Question: Does putting bread in a fridge make it last longer?
Expiriment: Measure the amount of mold on a slice of bread out in the sun and a slice of bread in the fridge
Independent Variable (IV) location of bread
Constants (C) Type of bread
Dependent variable (DV) Amount of mold
